So says Nicolas Carlson at Valleywag (although SN messaging equaling email messaging in the UK is not what that chart illustrates) and pretty much goes without saying . There’s no way that it can’t since people are on the SNs all day long and feel the urge to communicate. The problem is that when you’re on MySpace and get the urge, you can’t message your friends on Facebook in one fell swoop.
Yes, people do use multiple social networks. I get asked this a lot when I’m talking about MessageDance. It makes sense to not get too crazy and have to manage too many profiles to keep the info and interaction fresh, but just as you have different circles of friends, you can use different social networks to silo your friends somewhat. Often, though, you’ll want to get the word out to all of them about something and have your friends (in these independent silos) message you (and those in that silo) something interesting. So, social network messaging is on the rise — making it simple and distributed will be the key to its long-term success.
